Next week I will be in Montreal for the world premier of Black Magic for White Boys at the Fantasia International Film Festival. We shot more scenes last October, and it’s now a feature film. If you have friends in Montreal (Canada), please send them to this hilariously truthful film by Onur Tukel (one of my favorite directors!) I play Lucy, the magician’s assistant who suffers from mad migraines. Here’s the teaser:
The screenings are on July 19th at 6:45pm and July 23rd at 2:40pm at Salle J.A. De Sève, 1400 Maisonneuve Blvd W, Montreal.
Coming soon: Tes Yeux Mourants (Your Dying Eyes)
Guess what? I made it into a French film, playing a blind, scarred woman. The film is entirely in French, but there will be English subtitles.
I had never played a blind woman before, so I bought a white cane and practiced the different techniques outside with my eyes closed. I walked around the block every evening and got better and better at it. It is actually an entirely new world, because you open up your other senses. Some friendly neighbors were alarmed, wondering how I got blind so fast. (And only in the evening.) I had to explain to them: “I am an actress!”
Don’t try this at home or without a bodyguard!
And here it is, the Eva Quiz:
Why is it called Black Magic for White Boys and what does that mean?
A. It is a Spanish fly, used on white men. Aha!
B. White boys have been denied too long the privileges of black magic and now they’ve started a liberation movement.
C. It’s a new cocktail that is sold in trendy bars, consisting of vodka, lemon juice and black cohosh.
D. Hungry for power and money, white unscrupulous men turn to sorcery and black magic, leaving a trail of devastation behind them.
E. A fatal sorceress casts a spell on all white men on her block and turns them into sex slaves.
The first person that replies with the correct answer wins:
First Prize: A Black Magic cocktail in a trendy bar in Montreal during the Fantasia Film Festival
Second Prize: A pair of Hamilton socks
Consolation Prize: An invitation to a free film screening in Bryant Park
Hope to see you soon,
