Hoover Institution fellow Thomas Sowell discusses poverty around the world and in the United States. Poverty in America, he says, compared to the rest of the world, is not severe. Many poor people in poverty in the United States have one or two cars, central heating, and cell phones. The real problem for the poor is the destruction of the family, which Sowell argues dramatically increased once welfare policies were introduced in the 1960s.
Never thought we would ever do that, but in September of this year 2013 we will !
Jeroen and me will be jumping in at the deep end in an effort to raise money for research into ALS = Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
My father has been suffering for more than a year from this terrible disease and his muscle strength is lessening by the day.
Currently, he’s in a wheelchair, immobilized.
We‘re fortunate he can still talk to us.
Eighteen months ago, he could play wrestle with his granddaughters.
Because little is known about this disease, we will swim over 2 miles through the canals to raise money.
For my father John, but also for my Uncle Gert – Jan and for anyone who has to deal with this heinous affliction.
My own dad Tom and extended family will participate on the canal swim.
Will you support us by making a donation?
Every little bit helps.
